Pro-Russian "National-Bolshevik" alliance in the European Parliament

On 17 April 2014, the European Parliament adopted the resolution "On Russian pressure on Eastern Partnership countries and in particular destabilisation of eastern Ukraine". 437 MEPs voted for, 49 - against, and 85 abstained. The analysis of the vote against the resolution (see below) reveals the formation of the far right/far left alliance in the European Parliament, and this "National Bolshevik" alliance is likely to grow stronger after the European elections in May 2014. The progressive forces of Europe should be worried about the rise of the far left as much as they are worried about the rise of the far right.

  1. Are we surprised? Putin has been playing this fiddle rather well for some time now... and the extremes should stop pretending that they are different or each others' enemies... that's pretty obbious.

  2. I'd be hard-pressed to say what a Gianni Vattimo has in common with NBs for example?
Do you think of such a coalition as an actual political movement likely to manifest, along the lines of this vote, beyond the Ukraine crisis, or is it just a term to characterize a de facto convergence in this particular matter?

    1. I've put "National Bolshevik" in quotation marks, so I'm not talking about an actual National-Bolshevik ideology, although some of these former MEPs could indeed be National-Bolsheviks.
