Although they do not invalidate the thesis, that racism is to some extent present both in Tolkien's fiction and in his personal views, I would argue that it is a kind of residual racism, almost below the treshold of conscious reflection, the source of Tolkien's inconsistencies and intellectual struggle.thersiteshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15451393103990451788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6587508298339883154.post-10174131463126153532017-05-16T16:47:30.788+01:002017-05-16T16:47:30.788+01:00I have to disagree. Their moral corruption materialised on their own body. We can see similar proces with Gollum, who used to be hobit, but power of the ring corrupted him into orc-like creature. Orcs were created from Elves. A race which considers itself noble and perhaps superior to other races. Orcs lack free will. They cant breed naturally. There are no female orcs. This is not vision of same race, but of materialised evil.
"They simply cannot not mix and it seems that everyone enjoys this inability. At least, no one complains." It is not true that everybody is happy with this situation. In Silmarillion, Hobbit and Lord of the Rings there is repeating Romeo-Juliet-like motive of interracial love. Another repeating motive is that of Elvish arrogance and isolationism, which always leads to their own doom. Tolkien criticize inter-racial/cultural hatred on example of Elve-dwarf relationship, where cultural animosity and stereotypes, prevents them from uniting against evil. Leogolas and Gimli have to overcome this problem for common goal. Tolkien isnt racist and in his books he places anti-racist themes.
Dudehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09430479642989194316noreply@blogger.com
